Dreary weather, but good fishing

A rainy opening day produced some strong catches Friday in the 39th annual Optimist Club of Cave Spring's fishing tournament at Smith Mountain Lake. Joey Smith of Rocky Mount set a tough early standard in the largemouth bass category with an 8.26-pound fish caught in the morning on a worm near Magnum Point.
